The Last Day

Today, I made the final touches on my business proposition.  I think that it is going to look professional and will get a good grade.  I was up until about 2 o'clock in the morning working on it so I hope that all of the time I spent on it will equate to a good mark.

Overall, the project was harder than I imagined because of all of the research I had to do.  I was surprised how expensive it is to rent a building, especially on Hamilton Blvd.  This project did give me hope on actually opening a business of my own one day.  I think that I will need more start up money however I do think that with my experience in life and for this class I should be able to do it in real life.

The Amazon book selling business with my group went well.  We didn't make very much money but at least we made a little. I will probably continue to do business with amazon to make a little side money for luxury expenses when I can afford it.

Last day

Today our group et up in the Baxter lounge and collected all of the text books that we had to sell online.  We looked up the value of each book and it totaled Around 500 dollars, so everyone made about 10 dollars.
We still have about 20 more books to collect and sell which will earn eah tem member an expected 6 dollars each.
Then we all met in here classroom and we went over a lot of the information I'll have to cover in in my business's experience project.

Day 9

Today we talked a lot about franchising and opportunities in purchasing franchising.  We talked a little bit about McDonald's and how they got their start.  Then we got in our groups and talked more about our business and about how we are going to meet on Friday at 11 o'clock.

My business portfolio is almost done and it is starting to look really good and professional, I am excited for the teacher to see it.

Day 8

On day 8 we all worked with our group members to finish up our projects. We were able to create an email account, get a few customers and are even looking at a small profit.

I worked a lot on my business plan, and did a great deal of research on by experience business.

I am a little troubled by the last quiz because I am sure that I got 90% of the answers right but it said that I only got a 75% so I think that I am going to try to argue my answers.

Day 7

Well It is day 7 of the class and I have totally forgotten over the last few days about blogging so I apologize sincerely.

My business has been a complete fiasco.

I originally  started a business doing gun smithing in the Sioux City area and It was extremely successful.  I actually was starting this FOR REAL.  I posted an ad on the sporting section of Craigslist.com and Armslist.com and had over 20 customers lined up within 3 days.  I was ecstatic!

During class I would even be talking to customers over email about future jobs that they had for me.

By the second day of the class I had two Mosin Nagant Rifles and one Remington 870 shotgun at my house that I was working on and would earn about 230 dollars with.  Unfortunately, the next day I received an anonymous tip from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that what I was doing was highly illegal because one, I am under the age of 21 and am not legally allowed to keep other peoples firearm at my residence for over 24 hours unsupervised, and two, I do not have a Federal Firearms License (type 2, Gun smithing).

Needless to say, I had to return all of the firearms I had worked on for two days and give their money back because I was afraid of getting in any kind of trouble.  I also had to decline the 50 dollars that Ms. Thompson had offered me two days prior.

I shut down all of my Gun smithing advertisements online and quit the business all together.

This was a failure on my part however I did learn a valuable lesson.  I guess you could call it a success in a small way.

On a different note, my team has begun its book buyback business and it has been very successful and will ultimately be a great project in the end.

I apologize again about missing my last few days of blogging, I have been extremely busy with track, the Marine Corps, and school.

Day 3

On day three we went over chapter three in class and prepared for the third quiz online.  I also figured out what small buiness I was going to start for the class.
I decided that I was going to offer gunsmithing on craigslist.com and armslist.com.  I decided that I would not charge peole for the work I provided becasue I feel that it is more importnat that I gain experience rather than money.  I am going to ask for the 50 dollars offered by the course.  I also already have one customer that I am going to meet with today.  I am excited for what the week has instore for me.  I feel that my only problem is going to be getting the attenetion of new customers.
I am going to begin working on my business plan soon.

My group has not yet decided on what small business we are going to start.  We are thinking about shoveling snow from peoples driveways or grilling burgers outside of basketball games.

Day 2

Today we got into groups and discussed our small business ideas.  I think that our group is going to settle on grilling burgers outside of the basketball games on the weekends.  We are all however on a sports team so Im not yet sure if we can make that happen.
If the burger idea does not work, I think that we will try to shovel snow  in peoples driveways for around 5 to 10 dollars each.

In class we also talked about topics from chapter two, mostly covering business terms and obstacles.

I have decided that I will make my business plan based on a firearm store that I hope to one day own.
